After carefully considering the "unique" circumstances this year (COVID, location, etc.), the EC has decided to do things a little differently at STAR 2021.  Specifically, the registration fees are being increased to $90 for early bird registrations (by 5/15/21) and $100 for registrations after that date.  There are several reasons (and benefits!) for this change:
  • Due to lack of locations at a reasonable fee for a Tuesday lunch ride, it will be replaced by a Monday evening cookout (more details on this below).  This is included in your registration fee, so you won't need to purchase a meal that evening.  Thus your registration will actually include two meals (Monday evening cookout & Wednesday night banquet).
  • Since there will be no Tuesday lunch ride, there is no additional fee for that meal and no need to keep up with the additional lunch tickets that have been used in the past.
  • The cookout will be held at the Bearpaw Lodge, a very nice indoor/outdoor pavilion across the valley (about 2.7 miles) from the Canaan Valley Lodge.  We are looking into the possibility of a shuttle service to and from Bearpaw Lodge.
  • This change will allow participants to get in a full day of riding the routes of their choice on Tuesday rather than have to schedule around a specified location.
  • The Monday night Members' Meeting will be held at the same location right after the meal, so members can participate in the meeting without having to go anywhere else.
  • A late addition to the STAR 2021 lineup is a special ride set up by Keith McCrea, our Virginia State Director.  More details on this below.
Registration Information

Please select the appropriate registration types below.

Remember, there is not a separate registration category or fee for "Guests", nor do you even have to be a member of MSTA to participate.  Everyone (Members, Member of Household, and non-members) must complete the same registration form and pay the same registration fee.  The only exceptions to this are Life, Senior Life, and Sustaining members and their spouses, who will still receive a 10% discount.

You can register more than one person at a time (Member, Member of Household, or Non-Member).

As of April 1, all rooms at the Lodge have been reserved, but a few cabins are available.  However, it's possible there may be some cancellations, so instructions regarding how to book a room at the Lodge will be provided on your confirmation.  The room rates are listed below.
NOTE:  These rates do NOT include tax, and they also do NOT include breakfast:

ROOM TYPE             RATE PER NIGHT
Single/Double                    $99.00
Cabin 2 bedroom              $142.00
Cabin 3 bedroom              $169.00
Cabin 4 bedroom              $196.00
Cottage 4 bedroom           $239.00

These rates will be good from Thursday night (June 10) through the following Wednesday night (June 16)

If you do not know your MSTA member number (requested on the next page), we will look it up and add it your registration.

Again, you do NOT have to be a member of MSTA to attend STAR.  If you are not a member, please consider joining us now:

If you would like to renew an existing membership:
Renew your membership here

If you just want to update your address, phone number, email, etc.:
Update your membership here

As mentioned above, the registration types are the same as previous years.  Anyone may attend STAR.  If the main member is a Life, Senior Life, or Sustaining Member, any Member of that Household is given that same status.

And remember, there is no longer a Guest registration.

If your companion is not a member of MSTA, be sure to answer "No" to the question about MSTA membership on their registration.  Again, membership is NOT required to register for STAR.

Monday Evening Cookout

As mentioned above, this replaces the Tuesday Lunch Ride meal from previous years.  It is included in your registration, and will be held from 5-7 PM at the Bearpaw Lodge, a really nice indoor/outdoor pavilion across the valley and about 2.7 miles from the Canaan Valley Lodge.  The cookout will include cole slaw, hot dogs & chili, hamburgers with all the fixin's, chips, cookies & brownies, and sweet & unsweet tea.  There may also be a cash bar available (nothing definite at this point), so we strongly encourage attendees to ride share in a 4-wheel vehicle with a designated driver.  We're also looking into the possibility of a shuttle service, but that's not definite at this point.

For those with dietary needs (vegetarian/vegan), an alternative meal will be provided (probably something centered around portabello mushrooms, but those details aren't complete at this point).  The catering staff will need a count of these special meals, so please be sure to mark the correct menu choice on your registration if you want this option.  If you wait until Monday evening to request a special meal we will do what we can, but those who preorder will get priority and we cannot guarantee the catering staff will be able to accommodate the needs of others at the last minute.

Special Tuesday Ride

On Tuesday the 15th, there will be a special ride (The 'Thrilla' Over SR33) organized by Keith McCrea, our Virginia State Director.  This road winds over the mountains from Canaan Valley to the Wood Grill Buffet in Harrisonburg, VA.  It's about 2 hours each way, and promises to be a great, picturesque ride.  The Wood Grill Buffet will be all set up for us, serving lunch from 11 AM to 1:30 PM, so it's come-and-go at your own pace.  NOTE:  This is not included in your registration, so those who choose to join us will be responsible for paying for their own meal.  Details about this ride (route info, maps, etc.) will be in your registration packet, and GPX files will be made available.

Closing Banquet

As in the past, the closing banquet will be on Wednesday night the 16th, and for those with special dietary needs, the Resort will be offering vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options.  This choice can be made as part of your registration, and we encourage you to do so if you have such a need.  Like the Monday evening buffet above, the staff will need a count of these special meals, so please be sure to mark the correct menu choice as part of your registration if you want this option.  If you wait until the banquet on Wednesday night to decide we will do what we can, but those who preorder will get priority and we cannot guarantee the lodge staff will be able to accommodate the needs of others at the last minute.

Raffle Tickets

All raffle tickets are $8.00 each, regardless of how or when they're purchased.  This year, the raffle bike will be a 2020 Honda NC750X (manual transmission)!  As in years past, you must be a member in good standing of MSTA to be eligible to win the bike.

Raffle tickets may be purchased in the "Additional Items" section on the next page (along with hats, T-shirts, etc.) if you want to use this option rather than having to go to a separate web page.

If you don't want to register and just want to buy raffle tickets, click on this link:
http://www.planetreg.com/MSTARaffle2021
If you do register and want to purchase additional raffle tickets later, this same link will be in your confirmation.

In addition, every MSTA household will be sent a letter and ticket order form in the mail.  This is an extra precaution to help minimize the risks of COVID exposure for our volunteers who have historically gathered to stuff envelopes with pre-printed tickets.  Just fill out the form, detach it from the letter, and put it in the enclosed already addressed return envelope along with your check (made payable to MSTA).  This information will be used to generate your pre-printed tickets, so PLEASE PRINT LEGIBLY!

Tickets will also be available for purchase at STAR.

NOTE:  Online purchases of raffle tickets (either as part of registration or through the raffle bike web site) will be discontinued after May 31, 2021.  After that, they will only be available at STAR.

Honda will ship the bike to the winner's choice of an authorized Honda dealer.  The winner is responsible for all local, state, and federal taxes and fees, and any accessories they may decide to add after delivery.
