Nike Site Summit was an active part of America's first line of military defense from 1959 to 1979, during the Cold War era.   Now, Friends of Nike Site Summit (FONSS) volunteers are working with Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson to restore Site Summit as a valuable community resource, part of the Arctic Valley “experience,” and as a tool to educate current and future generations about the contributions of Cold War veterans, particularly those who served at Site Summit.

Spend a summer morning with FONSS volunteer guides who will escort you on a tour of Site Summit, showing those buildings which have been preserved since our work began in 2010 and describing the plans and progress on the others.

Weather and conditions permitting, tour participants will be transported in mini bus or passenger coach from the Arctic Valley Ski Area parking lot to the Lower and Upper areas of Site Summit.

Registration is a non-tax-deductible donation to FONSS.  Total registration is limited to 40 participants age 12 and older (no babies in carriers) and will close once that limit has been reached.  Please leave your dogs at home as no dogs are allowed on the site.

On-line registrations must be completed by credit card on-line.  If you prefer to register and then mail a check, please contact Friends of Nike Site Summit (FONSS) by email at site.summit.tours@gmail.com or by telephone at 907-717-0117 (leave message).  Mail-in reservations are on a space-available basis and must be completed before July 20, 2025.
