Changes in BC's Inclusive Education: A focus on IEP's Virtual 1-hour POPARD Family School Liaison Workshop

This workshop provides an overview of recent changes to B.C.’s Inclusive Education Manual, focusing on updates to Ministry designations and Individual Education Plan (IEP) guidelines. Participants will explore B.C.’s three Core Competencies—Communication, Thinking, and Personal and Social—and how they inform Competency-Based IEP goals and supports. The session will also provide practical strategies for parents to collaborate with schools in developing meaningful, student-centred IEPs.
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
Identify key changes to B.C.’s Inclusive Education policies and designation processes for students with ASD.
Identify important considerations regarding privately completed ASD assessments.
Understand the purpose and key components of a Competency-Based IEP.
Identify ways parents can participate in IEP development and review.
Connect their child’s strengths, needs, interests, and goals to B.C.’s three Core Competencies.
Develop questions and strategies to support collaborative IEP planning with their child’s school.
