Introduction to Applied Behaviour Analysis
5-Day Virtual POPARD Course

Special Session Open to All (not required to be a BC School Employee)
June 16-20, 2025 8:30am-4:00pm (Pacific Time)

Our Introduction to ASD course is usually only open to employees of BC Public, Independent, and First Nations Schools (K-12). However, this particular session is open to everyone (you are not required to be a BC School employee). The course fee for this session is higher than our other courses because POPARD does not receive funding to train non-school staff.

NOTE: Registrants must meet POPARD's English Language Proficiency, which is Grade 12 English. Details of our language requirements can be found here: https://autismoutreach.ca/training/course-policies-and-terms/ - scroll down to Expected English Language Proficiency.

INTRODUCTON TO APPLIED BEHAVIOUR ANALYSIS (ABA) COURSE DESCRIPTION

Completion of this course provides the participant with an overview of ABA history and theory, with an emphasis on practical applications in school settings. Participants will learn how discrete trial and task analysis are carried out, and learn how ABA principles are applied to other teaching situations and to program development for students with autism spectrum disorders.

Goals of this course:
  • to learn basic ABA theory and definitions
  • to learn how to implement basic ABA instructional strategies and techniques
  • to learn how to collect reliable and consistent data when working with students
NOTE:  This course will not qualify participants as a behavioural analyst, nor to act as a consultant.  It will provide participants with the knowledge necessary to carry out behavioural programs with children under the direction of a school staff with experience in autism and relevant educational qualifications.

If you are looking for qualification in assessment and program design, then a rigorous program of training, supervision, and evaluation over time is required. For information on training and qualifications for Board Certified Behavior Analysts or for Board Certified Associate Behavior Analysts, see the Behaviour Analysis Certification Board at www.bacb.com.

Audience: Anyone may register for this course, but they must meet POPARD's Expected English Language Proficency (Grade 12 English)
