EVENT DETAILS
After you check into the hotel, stop by BRAT's private dog park beyond the outdoor pool area to let your dogs have a good run. This park will be available starting on Wednesday afternoon. More info on this is included in the registration page.
On Thursday evening have dinner on your own, but be sure to save room for a complimentary dessert courtesy of BRAT. After dinner, come to the Blue Ridge Room with your dogs for the reception and early dog registration. Pick up your BRAT welcome bags and name badges. Each family group is entitled to one free welcome bag, not one per person. Enjoy some socializing and have lots of fun! Meet everyone and their dogs and put faces to names you only know through Facebook and emails. Renew friendships with BRAT people you have met before.
Friday morning and afternoon will be filled with informative seminars, Basenji contests and other activities. Afterwards there will be an informal buffet dinner at the hotel followed by (weather permitting) free time at our private dog park on the hotel grounds. We will come back inside the hotel for special fun night activities.
The fun continues on Saturday with more great presentations.
We will wrap up on Saturday afternoon with the raffle ticket drawing and final bids on the silent auction items. In the evening, we will have a social hour and a banquet, then our awards presentation, the live auction, and more fun! Generally the festivities on Saturday night conclude at 11:00 p.m.
Sunday hotel check-out is recommended to begin your journey home. Check out time is 11:00 a.m.
Throughout Friday's and Saturday’s lunches and dinners there will be door prize drawings for those who order their meals through the registration site.

Presentation of AWARDS and LIVE AUCTION |
Dogs are welcome at all events. There is a grassy area right outside the Crowne Ballroom to enjoy breaks through a designated door out the Ballroom, eliminating the need to go through the other public areas. In addition, our private dog park is available not far from the Crowne Ballroom.
There will be room available for your personal crates and x-pens inside the Crowne Ballroom and they can remain set up throughout the convention. Plastic will be provided to place under all crates. Dogs must be crated or in a secure X-pen when left unattended. Dogs cannot stay in meeting rooms overnight.
AUCTION and RAFFLE
The fantastic raffle, silent, and live auctions are always a highlight of convention weekend. We appreciate and need your donations! If you plan to bring a donated item, please let Andrea McNair know about it early, if possible. Email her with your item description (and a photo) ahead of time at akmcnair@me.com. You may also mail donations in advance to:
Andrea McNair
114 Wispering Creek Lane
Franklin, NC 28734
BASKET CONTEST (OPTIONAL ACTIVITY)
For the last three years we have had a fun Basket Contest and the top four winners will receive a beautiful prize ribbon. Feel free to bring a gift basket as a donation for the convention. Some people create a basket of goodies based on the theme of a state basket of goodies from the state in which they live. However it can be any theme you wish. I know that this year one person is bringing a Fishing Basket, complete with a nice fishing pole. Each basket will be sold to the highest bidder, similar to our Silent Auction items.
PAINT-A-BASENJI (OPTIONAL ACTIVITY)
Create a Basenji masterpiece to take home with you of your favorite color Basenji with artist Matt Taylor, The Dusty Pallet. He will prepare a sketch in advance for each of you, please specify the color you wish to paint - red/white, black/white, tri, brindle. You must sign up and pay in advance to participate! You can choose this option in the same way you choose meals before you complete your registration.
Paint-A-Basenji = $30 per person
We must have minimum of 20 participants for this activity. The maximum is 30 participants. You can pay for this activity in advance when you complete your registration. If we don't have the minimum of 20 participants sign up, BRAT will refund your fee for the activity.
HELPING WITH SET UP FOR THE CONVENTION (OPTIONAL ACTIVITY)
If you are arriving at the convention early on either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, we would love to have you help with setting up our convention space. There is always lots to do. Helpers on Wednesday and Thursday are entitled to a free lunch buffet. Just let us know by answering the questions as you proceed through registering for the convention. There is no obligation to help if you are not interested.
PROGRAM MEMORIAL PAGE AND SLIDESHOW
As always, we plan to have a special memorial page in our convention program and a memorial slideshow that will be shown during the convention. If you are interested in including any of your beloved Basenjis who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge, please contact Lori King at BRAT.Memorials@gmail.com before May 10th. A donation of any amount is suggested, but not required. Go to https://www.basenjirescue.org/donations to donate if you wish. A photo is required to be in the Memorial Slide Show.
CLOTHING ADVICE
Asheville temperatures in early June average from a high of 82 to a low of 57 degrees. It's definitely on the milder side during June but it's a good idea to bring an extra layer just in case. Cool, comfortable clothing is recommended for all events including the banquet, which will be casual. Because hotel meeting rooms can be chilly, consider bringing a jacket or sweater — same for evenings in Asheville. It may be rainy during the month of June so be sure to bring along a waterproof jacket to stay dry.

HOTEL PET POLICY

- Dogs must be crated when alone in individual hotel rooms.
- Plastic will be provided in welcome bags. Please place it under all crates in your hotel room.
- Plastic will also need to be placed under x-pens.
- Additional plastic is available in the meeting room.
- Doggie bags will be provided by BRAT at the registration table.
- Please clean up after dogs in all areas of hotel, inside and out.
- Leashes required in all public areas.
- Dogs are allowed in the meeting rooms (including our dining rooms) at all times.
- Dogs are not allowed in the restaurant, gym or pool area.
- Dogs are allowed outside on the Restaurant's Terrace.
- There are disposal cans available around the outside areas.
- Please be sensitive to the fact that not all hotel guests are with BRAT and some may not like dogs. (Yes, it is true, there are people who don't like dogs. Maybe they haven't met a Basenji!)
We hope everyone who attends the convention will be able to stay at the hotel. It is a great opportunity to hang out and socialize with fellow Basenji lovers and their dogs in between the convention events. In addition, it helps BRAT put on the convention. The hotel provides the meeting space at a reduced fee and discounts the room rate in exchange for our agreement guaranteeing that we meet our room block. If we do not have as many rooms rented at the hotel as we guaranteed, we have to pay even more for the meeting rooms as a penalty. The same is true for the meals for the event — we are committed to a guaranteed minimum amount of meals. If we don't meet the minimums for food and beverages, we still have to pay the guaranteed amount. As a result, we negotiated the room block, rate, and food as shrewdly as we could for the benefit of our attendees and BRAT.

DOG PARK INFORMATION
This is an extra special treat this year as a thank you for all you do for BRAT!
There will be a dedicated dog park for BRAT convention attendees only. It will open on Wednesday afternoon. It will be 6' tall, securely encompassing most of the flat green area beyond the hotel pool with very close access from our ballroom. No separate areas for small and large dogs.
There will be rules of course:
Use park at your own risk.
Owners are legally responsible for the behavior of your dogs at all times.
Dogs must be supervised by their humans at all times.
Dogs must be leashed while entering and exiting the park.
Waste must be cleaned up immediately and disposed of in the designated potty stations.
There is also a great walking/running trail system on the resort property.
For the sake of all dogs and people, dogs must be up to date on vaccinations including rabies, and free of worms and fleas. Dogs (and children) must be accompanied by adults at all times.
ALERT! Before you leave home, be sure to bring your dogs’ appropriate tags, licenses, and paperwork — not just for the dog park — but in case you have to produce them for any reason!

DINING
We look forward to some great meals together! Due to many factors beyond our control and the higher cost of living in the area, meal prices are slightly more this year. The Crowne Plaza is in a resort area, so costs are higher. BRAT always tries to keep prices as reasonable as possible. The Crowne Plaza adds on a 22% service charge fee and 7% tax for an additional charge of 29% to all meal prices; the price shown for all meals includes these tips, taxes and service charge fees. Yes, we know you can go to McDonald's or other fast food places for less. But outside food is not allowed in the meeting rooms, so think of the great company you will miss if you leave us to eat! 100% of meal prices collected go directly to hotel. BRAT makes no profit on meal charges. Last year when the convention was in Tennesee, we were able to pass on some savings to our attendees because we are state tax-exempt in Tennessee. We are not state tax-exempt in North Carolina.
You will order your meals through this registration site. Meals may be ordered now through May 22, 2024. All meals at this convention will be buffet style.
There will be no carry-out from the dining rooms. No containers will be available. If you have someone attending with you that is physically unable to eat in the dining room, you MUST make arrangements with the hotel during reservations for this.
We encourage you to attend all the meals to meet others, develop networking contacts and discuss all the information you'll be receiving. It is a time of sharing and fellowship and fun.
There are four additional incentives to join us for both lunches and dinners as each will feature a door prize drawing for those who purchased meals and are in attendance.
ALERT! Very Important: Meals must be ordered in advance through this registration site. Please present your meal card as you enter the buffet line and drop it into the blue bucket on the table (so that you are entered in the prize drawing) for each pre-ordered lunch or dinner to facilitate meal service. Pre-ordered/pre-paid lunch, dinner, and banquet tickets will be in your ID badge pocket. Your ID# on the back of your badge should be written on your meal ticket. Please be sure to bring your tickets with you to all meals.
Remember, you can use the savings from the regular pet fee to use towards the meals.
