Supporting Students with ASD in Your Classroom: A Course for Teachers 12-week POPARD Course (March 31 to June 23, 2026)

This interactive online course is intended to provide participants with the most current understanding of evidence-based practices for teaching students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This course is designed for teachers who share an interest in learning about ASD and are currently working with students in a K-12 school-setting.
TIME COMMITMENT
This course requires 45 hours of self-directed learning (or more, depending on your learning style) to be completed over a 12-week period. Expect to spend 3.5 to 4.5 hours per week, depending on the week's content. This course includes:
9 On-Demand Modules
3 Live Online Sessions (attendance is mandatory)
Completion of an independent capstone project in the teacher’s/professional’s classroom or school
A variety of reading, videos, and assignments
COURSE DELIVERY & TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
This course will be delivered using Canvas and Zoom
For this course, you must have a laptop or desktop computer (equipped with functioning webcam & microphone), and a reliable internet connection (tablets / iPads / cell phones are not acceptable)
Course materials will be mailed to you via canada Post (we will email you a few weeks prior to the start date to confirm your mailing address)
You will receive an important email 1 week before the course begins that will include: Canvas & Zoom information, and details on completing a mandatoryIntroductory Module in Canvas before the course begins (due date to complete will be in the email)
POPARD strongly recommends using Google Chrome as your web browser when logging into Canvas – other browsers may reduce functionality or prevent saving of your work in Canvas
You must attend all sessions in full and complete all course work (certificate will be issued only to those who attend in full and complete all course work
MANDATORY LIVE ZOOM SESSIONS (three total):
Tuesday April 28, 2026 (3:30-5:30pm) Live Session #1 (everyone attends this session)
Tuesday May 26, 2026 (3:30-5:30pm) Live Session #2 (everyone attends this session)
Tuesday June 16, 2026 (3:30-5:30pm) OR Tuesday, June 23, 2026 (3:30-5:30pm) Capstone Project presentations (you will choose your date when you register, first come first serve as only 5 can register per date)
*WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO REGISTER*
This course is open to teachers and other professionals (Administrators, District Helping Teachers, Speech Language Pathologists, Counselors, School Psychologists, Occupational Therapists) employed by BC K-12 School Districts, First Nations Schools and Independent Schools. Unfortunately, we are not currently accepting para-professionals (this includes EAs) for this course.

COURSE FEES, CANCELLATIONS, REFUNDS
Admintstration fee $95: a non-refundable fee of $95 is required for all course attendees.
Refunds: refunds may be applicable under certain circumstances if written notice of cancellation is received at training_lib@autismoutreach.caat least 3 weeks before the start of the course
ENGLISH LANGUAGE POLICY + OTHER POLICIES
Proficiency in English language is required for POPARD courses. You must be able to speak/comprehend and read/write English at a Grade 12 level or higher. Details of POPARD's training policies and terms can be found here.
