Peer-Based Interventions (PBI) POPARD Virtual Half-Day Workshop
February 13, 2026 12:30pm-3:30pm (for BC School Employees Only)
Friendships help all students develop socially, emotionally, and personally. Some autistic students can struggle to build and maintain friendships. While many interventions focus on directly teaching social skills to individuals with autism, peer-based instruction and intervention (PBII) focuses on teaching peers how to interact with and support learners with less developed social skills. Peer-based interventions can increase the social skills of students and help to foster friendships in the classroom. Participants will be provided with an overview of different types of peer-based interventions, with a deeper look at the steps to implement peer modeling, peer initiation training, and direct training for the target learner and peer. By the end of the workshop, participants will have actionable strategies to effectively support peer connections from Kindergarten to Grade 12.
Audience: This workshop is for employees of BC School Districts, BC First Nations Schools and BC Independent Schools.
