The Importance of Self- Advocacy for Autistic Children & Youth
Virtual 1-hour POPARD Family School Liaison Workshop
April 22, 2025 3:30-4:30pm (Pacific Time)

Self-advocacy skills are significantly important for Autistic individuals to develop.  This includes communicating their needs, challenges and preferences to ensure they are reaching their goals and enhance independence. This session will:
  • Present key findings from the literature and highlight autistic voices pertaining to self-advocacy
  • Discuss the role of parents, educators and others becoming allies to support self-advocacy for autistic children/youth
  • Review how school teams and parents can support self advocacy skill development  
About this Workshop:
  • Presented via Zoom (the Zoom link will be in your confirmation email - if you don't see a confirmation email, check your junk/spam folder)
  • Audience: This training is primarily intended for parents and families of students who are on the Autism spectrum, however educators and other professionals may attend
  • This FREE 1-hour workshop will include 45 minutes of content and 15 minutes of Q&A
