Presenter Dr. John (Jack) Peck
Dr. Jack Peck has been a transformative educator, researcher, inventor, and entrepreneur with a long and distinguished career. As Professor of Computer Science at Clemson University, he co-founded Clemson Apparel Research that became recognized as a national model for cooperative research programs involving academia, government and industry. While at Clemson, he led several research projects focused on material handling and supply chain technologies. Jack is a successful entrepreneur. In 1987, he cofounded Foxfire Technologies Corporation, a small business focusing on software for shop-floor control and warehouse management systems. Foxfire’s products were employed by such well known companies as Carter’s, Intertape Polymer Group, and Russell Athletic. Foxfire Technologies was sold in 2007 to focus on FastFetch Corporation, a new company that Jack co-founded to supply hardware and software solutions for eCommerce order fulfillment. Jack provided the creative genius that formed the basis for FastFetch’s products and led the project team that created them. FastFetch’s customers include such recognizable names as Stanley Black&Decker, GNC, Spartan Nash, and one of Detroit’s “Big 3” automotive manufactures. Jack is a knowledge creator with five US and several international patents focused on manufacturing and supply chain technologies. An algorithm that Jack developed for minimizing wasted space when items are placed into a box for shipping is recognized as the premier algorithm of its kind; this algorithm is now being used by Staples, Walmart, and Toys R Us.
