This course will cover the following:
Characteristics of ASD
Diagnosis and assessment
Cognitive profiles and ranges of ability
Theory of mind
Social and communication skills
Effective instructional practices
Application of Theory to Classroom Practice
Data collection & analysis
Positive behaviour supports
Teaching approaches including:
Participants will gain the basic understanding and skills needed to provide quality instruction and supports for students with ASD.
Audience: This training is directed toward employees of BC school districts and independent schools. This includes teachers, paraprofessionals, and other educational staff supporting students with ASD at any grade level (K-12) in developing their social, academic, and adaptive skills.

About the Introduction to ASD Course
Participants will attend this virtual training using Canvas and Zoom
A laptop or desktop computer, equipped with a webcam and microphone, and a reliable internet connection are required for this course (tablets/iPads/iPhones are not suitable)
Course workbook and materials will be mailed via Canada Post to the address provided by the registrant on the registration form (notify us if your mailing address changes).
Canvas and Zoom information will be emailed to registrants during the week prior to the start of the course.
Participants must attend all sessions in full (certificate will only be issued if all sessions have been attended).
Course Fees, Cancellations, Refunds
Course fee for all participants: $50, payable upon registration
Cancellations: email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have to cancel
Refunds: The course fee is refundable if written notice of cancellation (via email to training_lib@autismoutreach) is received at least 4 weeks prior to the start of the course
Registrations are non-transferable (registration closes Apr 11 at 9am)
