FLEX Introduction to Autism Spectrum Disorders - for BC School Employees only
NOTE: The content of this virtual FLEX ASD course is the same as the content covered in POPARD's 5-Day Introduction to ASD course. It should be considered by school districts as equivalent to the POPARD ASD course for any employment requirements. If you have already taken our 5-Day Introduction to ASD please know that this course does not cover new information, although it may be useful for review purposes.
This 5-week FLEXIBLE Introduction to Autism Spectrum Disorders course is for employees of BC School Districts and BC Independent Schools. It is offered over a 5-week period in order to offer flexibility to those juggling work and home commitments. Participants are given ample time to learn and work with the concepts through a combination of pre-recorded modules and Live Zoom sessions.
Through 30 hours of learning, this course provides a basic overview of ASD with an emphasis on application relevant to the school setting. Topics include the basics of ASD, individual differences, understanding and changing behaviour, social and communication skills, life skills, and much more!
Participants will attend the following LIVE sessions (via Zoom) for this FLEX ASD course. Attendance is mandatory for all LIVE sessions listed below, and times are Pacific Time:
Tuesdays 4:30-7:00pm PT (Nov 10, 17, 24, Dec 1, 8, and 15) plus Thursday Dec 10 4:30-6:00pm Final Exam Review Session
Participants must also complete a mandatory pre-recorded orientation session prior to beginning this course. Participants are expected to arrive 15 minutes prior to their designated Zoom LIVE session times to allow for sufficient time for check-in. Class instruction will start promptly at the scheduled time, and latecomers might not be accommodated.
Audience: This 5-week FLEX course is only for employees of BC school districts and independent schools. This includes teachers, paraprofessionals, and other educational staff supporting students with ASD at any grade level (K-12). You must register with your school district email address when registering for this course.
