POPARD 7-Week Virtual Introduction to ASD FLEX Course Tuesdays, 4:00-6:30pm (April 5 to May 17, 2022)
FLEX Introduction to Autism Spectrum Disorders - for BC School Employees only
NOTE: The virtual ASD FLEX course covers the same content as POPARD's 5-Day Introduction to ASD course. School districts should consider both courses as equivalent for employment requirements.
Course Overview This 7-week FLEXIBLE Introduction to ASD course is for employees of BC School Districts and BC Independent Schools. Through a combination of pre-recorded modules, independent/group work, and virtual 'live' sessions, participants will learn about ASD with an emphasis on applications relevant to the school setting. Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate showing 30 hours of learning. This course will be delivered through Canvas, a learning management system, and live sessions will be attended via Zoom.
Time Commitment
Participants must attend all seven mandatory live Zoom sessions listed below, and can expect to spend an additional 2 to 3 hours per week on self-learning modules. Self-learning times may vary depending on individual learning styles. There is also a mandatory pre-recorded course orientation module (allow approx 30 minutes) that must be completed prior to the first live session.
Mandatory Live Zoom Sessions for this course (seven total):
Tuesdays 4:00-6:30pm (Apr 5, Apr 12, Apr 19, Apr 26, May 3, May 10, May 17)
Participants are asked to arrive 15 minutes early to live sessions to allow time for check-in; sessions will start promptly at scheduled time.
Who this course is for: BC public and independent school teachers, paraprofessionals, and other educational staff supporting students with ASD at K-12 grade levels. You must register with your school district employee email address when registering for this course.* *If you are a BC school employee but don't have your own school district email address, you may register, but you must also submit a Confirmation of Employment Form (form will open in a new window).
