hoMEworks Homebuyer Education Courses
Students gain valuable knowledge about the home buying process in a neutral environment. Students who successfully complete the course will earn the opportunity to receive a qualifying certificate, that may be eligible for certain first-time homebuyer loan products, or government lending programs, valid for two years.
Classes cover how to:
- Budget for a home purchase
- Prepare for expected costs during the home buying process
- Select and work with reputable industry professionals
- Understand credit and lending
- Prepare for expected costs after becoming a homeowner
- Protect your investment over the long term
EACH PERSON MUST REGISTER SEPERATELY
Please note: Anyone requiring a Homebuyer Education Certificate, to access downpayment assistance or mortgage products that require HUD-certified homebuyer education, must complete that education prior to closing.
In the event that class is cancelled due to low registeration, paid registered students may elect an alternate class within one year to attend. Please email housing@kvcap.org.

Class enrollment closes Thursday, September 17th, 2026 at 12:00pm.
Please Note: Enrollment for a class closes at 12:00 p.m. on the Tuesday or Thursday before the class. Please ensure to enroll as well as complete payment before that time if you would like to take the class. Please note that enrollment for a course will conclude once all available seats have been purchased, which may occur prior to the scheduled registration deadline.

Please note: Payments are non-refundable.
In the event that you are unable to attend the scheduled class, you must notify KVCAP at housing@kvcap.org at the latest 48 hours before the scheduled class; by doing so, your payment will be held for one year for you to attend an alternate class within that year. In the event that class is canceled due to lack of enrollment, the same process will follow. Failure to select an alternate class within one year or failure of providing notification before 48 hours of the class or failure to appear to class will result in loss of payment.
ehomeAmerica
eHomeAmerica is an online self-navigated course, which you can take at your convenience. It offers more flexibility in completing the homebuyer course. It is a national platform and costs $100 per person. It includes a phone conference of up to 60 minutes, following the web modules, to certify that the course has been completed.
(This course meets the educational requirements for the Advantage Grant, and Maine Housing Loans.)
Talk to your lender about applying the $100 cost of the course toward closing cost.
Framework
Framework meets the requirements for Fannie Mae HomeReady mortgages. You can complete the course online at your leisure, and receive a certificate.
(This course does not meet the requirements for the Advantage Grant, and Maine Housing Loans.)
